Winter
Since we are a few weeks into winter I think it’s time for a few must haves this season. Now I am by no means a product junkie (ok, I am), but I love to try new products that will keep my hair hydrated. While I do have my staple products for year around, I always always look for new products that will keep my hair from being too dry, and that will minimize damage. So if you have been following me, you know that I am a ride or die DIYer! lol If I can make it and save my money, I will! But there are a few products I do not mind spending money on, especially if it will last me for years to come.
Q-redew
Q-Redew is a handheld hair steamer used to revive, moisturize, and rejuvenate dry, dull curls. It can be used on both dry or wet hair. When used on dry hair it is said to leave hair dry to touch. I have used it to blow out my hair without heat and I can attest that it works great for dry hair. Q-Redew is convenient for all curl types (1’s, 2’s 3’s, & 4’s). According to the Q-Redew website, Q-Redew is an alternative to the time-consuming hooded steamer and drippy spray bottles. During the winter time, natural hair needs extra moisture, so why not use a hair steamer! I love this product!
Bentonite Clay
Bentonite Clay is a great alternative to traditional sulfate or sulfate free shampoos. It is so moisturizing, your natural hair oils remain, and curls have the best definition. What natural doesn’t want all of that?! I use a very simple recipe that can be found here, but you can also create your own with whatever works for your hair. For my clay shampoo, I use Aztec Indian Secret healing Clay.
Jamaican Black Castor Oil
JBCO is a very thick carrier oil that can be used to heal, seal, and moisturize natural hair. It is known to stimulate hair growth, help repair dry-damaged hair, and protect hair from the elements. I recently tried JBCO, and at first I was like le sigh, this oil is too darn thick! lol, but I kept using it and I have now fallen in love! This oil is the business! It can also be used for hot oil treatments or to grow your edges back. Give this oil a try, and you won’t regret it!
Shea Butter
There’s no secret how much I love Shea Butter, but I especially love it in the winter. Shea butter is my go to styler/moisturizer during these cold months because of how soft & moisturized it leaves not only my hair but my skin. Here are two different recipes: shea butter, or whipped shea butter.
